One of my favorite producers, Tyler Perry, was on the Oprah Show today.  While on to promote his new film which comes out November 5th entitled For Colored Girls, he also spoke about his own life growning up as a child and opened up about the phsyical and sexual abuse he suffered as an adolesent.

Having the opportunity to hear about his traumatic childhood showed me how you can conquer anything with faith.  Tyler Perry is now the second highest-earning man in Hollywood by Forbes magazine for 2010.  And, having made over 20 plays and movie films, he is one of the most influential black entrepreneurs of today.

Among the most emotional parts of the interview, Tyler mentioned how his father beat him so bad, he blacked out for 3 days.  He once tried to commit suicide, and spoke of the sexual abuse he recieved at an early age by three different men and a woman,  including having being locked in a house and having to get the key out of the abuser in order to leave and then ending up having sex, all before the age of 10.  I wont go into any more details because they are extremely graphic, but gosh, Brother Tyler has been through Hell and back.

One thing that I found so amazing about Tyler, is that after all he had been through with his father, he forgave him and takes care of him financially, despite the fact that his father is not sorry for what he did to him.  Tyler said his father once mentioned:  ”If I had beat your ass one more time, you probably would have been Barack Obama.”

He also took time out to thank Oprah for being such a postive influence on his life.  It’s Tyler’s hope that his personal story of struggle will give other men and boys who are in situations like what he went through, the courage to speak out about the abuse they are in or have went through in the past.  I personally wish Tyler all the best having decided to share this with all of us.  photosource: aceshowbiz.com
