El Debarge Talks About His Recent Relapse and getting “Yet Another Chance” With The TJMS

One of my all time favorite musicians is coming back, yet again!
El Debarge spoke candidly with the TJMS about his recent relapse after his “2nd Chance” release, getting back on the road and Amy Winehouse’s death. El is scheduled to appear and perform in the Macy’s Music festival in Cincy Saturday, July 3oth – something that I can’t wait to attend as a huge fan of his, Keshia Cole, Charlie Wilson, Frankie Beverly and more.
El mentioned to Tom Joyner that he would definitely try to make up many of the failed appearances he had scheduled due to his relapse. He explained that he checked into a rehabilitation center in Jackson, Mississippi 3 days before his scheduled tour with Kem, saying that he hoped Kem would forgive him but that ” I had to save my life.”
About rehab:
“I didnt want things to get out of control [... ] I went and got me some knowlege about whats going on with this whole relapse situation cause I didn’t want it to happen again. It’s one day at a time and keep it simple, and keep some positive people around you. I had done all of that. I was going on willpower, but you can’t just go on willpower, you gotta have some knowledge about what is going on.”
El noted that this was his first time in a treatment program and never recieved any addiction help while in prison. So, I think it’s safe to say this guy has gone a long way. I really wish him the best.
