Perhaps you have haven’t heard about the 17 year old teen named Trayvon Martin that was shot dead the other day in Florida, so I feel empelled to share the story.  Unlike the death of Robert Champion, a student of FAMU who’s murder flooded news, radio stations and papers, Trayvon’s case yet still fresh -seems not too have had the same leway so far when it comes to public outcry and attention.

On February 26th, the young man was shot by a George Zimmerman, 28 years old who was out patrolling the gated community that Trayvon’s father and his fiance’ lives in. Zimmerman called non emergency before the shooting to report a suspicious person in the neighborhood.

Zimmerman was taken into custody but was released. His nose was bloody, and officers spotted blood on the back of his head as well as grass on the back of his shirt, according to the incident report.

The Martin family’s lawyers, Benjamin Crump and Natalie Jackson, have filed suit in Sanford, asking a judge to order the police department to release its 911 recordings.

But that’s basically were the agreement ends… family are upset and demanding answers to why a person who shot their son in broad daylight is still free.  I also have a couple of questions for Sandford law enforcement… starting with what evidence do they need to arrest the shooter of Trayvon Martin?   And, am I to assume that anyone can claim ‘self defense’ after shooting another and get away with it in that county?

Hmm…. Such a sad situation.  Your thoughts?
