Michael Teasley, Jackson State University’s First White NAACP President, Found Dead
40 year old Michael Teasley, who was Jackson State University’s first white NAACP President, was found dead Monday evening in his Mississppi apartment of what is being assumed as natural causes by Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart.
Predominantly held in the past by African-Americans, Teasley was the first to hold this position after being elected by his 60+ peers at the JSU chapter in 2010 and served as vice-president for two years prior. In 2011, he told the Jackson Free Press: “I’m doing the exact same thing that other people were murdered for in the 1960s[ ...] I started out registering people to vote, and I got to be president of the organization…and I don’t have to worry about being murdered. it’s like a breath of fresh air.”
This guy was certainly a man of compassion and dignity that was proud of his activism for the black community and worked diligently to progress all races together as a whole. The legacy of Michael Teasley has accomplished it’s purpose, I’m very sure his presence will be missed.
