Unless you haven’t heard…
Actor Michael Clarke-Duncan, whom most remember from his Academy Award Nominated performance in the film The Green Mile, passed away yesterday at the age of 54. He was engaged to Omarosa Manigault, who saved his life back in July when he first had a myocardio infarction (heart attack). He never fully recovered from that incident and was admitted in the hospital at the time of his passing.
NoirGossip gives its heartfelt condolences. Read the rest of this entry

It’s sad to report but Yvette Wilson who was best known for her portrayal of Andell Wilkerson on the 90′s hit show ‘Moesha’ and on “The Parkers” has lost her battle with cervical cancer. She was only 48 years old.
If you recall, last month her family was attempting to raise $25,000 to help with treatment of her illness and help with her medical bills, but with last night’s passing it’s unclear if they had yet made that mark.
Close friend & co-star Shar Jackson tweeted about Yvette’s death last night, saying that “I wanna thank all my tweeties for their prayers but god has chosen to take my sister Yvette home.. …”
Cervical cancer is very fatal for black americans, because we as a group die from this cancer more than any other race. The Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) is a huge factor in what causes this slow-growing disease, and blacks may have a problem clearing it, for various reasons. Just more reason to why we need to focus and fight for better reproductive health care of all women, and focus on living healthier lives.
God knows best! RIP Yvette, you are free!… You were funny, talented and a staple in my household since I grew up watching Moesha. She will definitely be missed. Read the rest of this entry

Tami Roman at the age of 41 was treated for a mild heart attack at Cedar Sinai Hosptial this past monday. Sorry, but the first thing I thought was perhaps it was from all that anger that I notice she has every time I catch a glimpse of her on Basketball Wives…lol… but I digress. Heart problems are no laughing matter. And stress as well as anger could definitely cause you to have one, but certainly could it be that a person just isnt taking good care of themselves. Its time to promote better heart health in our communities, don’t you think?
Tami tweeted about the situation herself so perhaps she is in better spirits about the whole situation. She said:
“Thx 2every1 for the get well wishes. Never thought I’d have a mild heart attack at 41.
God has a way of bringing things into perspective. Finally going home 2my kids-heart meds and all. I’m off twitter 4 awhile, no stress recovery, but I appreciate ALL the positive energy & the negative 1′s-get a life-I sure appreciate mine.”
Nicely said. I pray that she achieves all that she sets out to do in her recovery. Once she gets all of the court cases settled (as she is being sued by some hair company – you can read more about that here), perhaps she can get well in the aspect of freedom as well. Who knows, huh?? Read the rest of this entry

Like T-Boz, I have struggled with alot of nay sayers when dealing with my battle with Sickle Cell Anemia. Having been wrote off as someone who wouldn’t live past the age of 30, would not be able to have any children, and would never live a full-filled life… we both as many many others have proved time and time again that doctors can be wrong. My own grandfather who had sickle cell anemia died at the age of 72. Very blessed. So, I was too excited when I heard T-Boz of TLC whom is one of the few celebrity advocates for the disease, take the time out to talk with CNN’s Dr. Sunjay Gupta about her own situation and her personal battles.
In part, she shared:
“I grew up singing in church with my mother but I always had the same dream and I would see myself in baggy pants, running from the left side of the stage bending down to the right shaking someone’s hand, and a whole bunch of people are screaming for me. In my heart and until this day, I really believed it.”
“Doctors, they didn’t give me a very happy ending. You won’t live past 30, you’ll be disabled your whole life. You’ll never have kids. I was looking around the room like, ‘I don’t know who he’s talking to because that’s not my story.”
I had previously heard about Tionne having to also have brain surgery after finding out she had a benign brain tumor, and she touches on that topic as well in the interview. She mentioned that…
“I started having headaches, but they were so frequent, something was wrong. My doctor called, but his voice sounded funny. And I said, ‘You’re gonna say something like I have a brain tumor, right?’ He got quiet .”
That’s why its so important for more african americans, blacks and anyone really to consider bone marrow donation nowadays. Check out the video after the jump and share your thoughts

‘Basketball Wives’ Star Royce Reed suffered from an apparent seizure suddenly at a charity softball game yesterday. There assumingly was no prior incidents like this for her, so this was a surprise. Royce is claiming that it was caused by the heat, exhaustion, and stress.
According to TMZ, Royce was in Wilmington DE for Duffy’s Hope Celebrity Softball Game. She signed autographs for fans, then played decently until pulling a hamstring at some point during the game. When she went to sit down, she passed out. After coming to soon after, she was told she had a seizure and relayed back that it was her first time experiencing such.
She did not seek to go to the hospital after recieving medical attention immediately from paramedics, rather choosing to see her physician after returning to Florida. I’m not sure that’s a great idea though, if she claims it never happened before…
Via MedlinePlus, seizures are “physical findings or changes in behavior that occur after an episode of abnormal electrical activity in the brain [... ]. A person who has had a new or severe seizure is usually seen in a hospital emergency room. The health care provider will try to diagnose the type of seizure based on the symptoms. Tests will be done to rule out other medical conditions that cause seizures or similar symptoms. This may include fainting, transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke, panic attacks, migraine headaches, sleep disturbances, and others.”
If that had ever happened to ME, I would have went straight to the nearest hospital… But, different strokes for different folks.
